Overall, the keto diet got ranked a 2 out of 5 by experts in the annual diet roundup.
Because when breaking down the report the keto diet doesn’t fair very well in any category except short-term weight loss (3.8/5).
One expert declared, “This diet is fundamentally at odds with everything we know about long-term health”.
Not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution
Despite the keto diet being hit with one of the lowest rankings in comparison to the other 34 diets investigated, it could be a game-changer for a specific demographic.
This is because the keto diet does help a small group of people improve blood sugar control and weight loss – however the restrictiveness of the diet, possible side effects and lack of long-term data raises concerns.
According to the Business Insider Australia, modified versions of the diet may be a less risky way to try a keto lifestyle.
