But the thing is, these aren’t the only side effects of drinking artificially sweetened drinks such as diet soda.
Other possible health implications could be:
- Negative changes to the gut microbiome
- Increased risk of osteoporosis
- Tooth decay
Some research has found quite alarming implications of drinking artificially sweetened drinks like diet soda while others haven’t been as conclusive. One outcome from these studies is for certain, diet soda does not add nutritional value to your diet. Where possible, find healthier alternatives or simply say no to diet sodas.. That way you’re avoiding potential health risks and vastly improving your long term health and wellness.

- Replace the fizz
You can easily do this by purchasing soda or mineral water and adding 30 ml of 100 percent fruit juice for flavour.
- Replace the ritual
Humans are creatures of habit who love routine. So next time you see yourself heading towards the vending machine and going for a diet soda check your options. There might be a healthier one that will equally quench your thirst. Alternatively don’t give yourself the opportunity to purchase by skipping the vending machine altogether.
- Drink water
If you’re hydrated with the good stuff you are less likely to want to drink more liquid (aka diet soda). Not only that, but staying hydrated with water is a health benefit in itself. It’s linked to positive mental health, high energy levels and increased concentration.
